DHI Hair Transplant

When you decide on having a hair transplant operation, you start your own research to get maximum information about your options. This is a good idea because you can make a detailed discussion with your hair transplant surgeon to find the optimal method for you. You may have found so much information about FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) and suddenly came across with DHI (Direct Hair Implantation). The DHI hair transplant method is one of the recent developments in the field of hair transplantation.

What is DHI Hair Transplant?

Firstly, you need to know the difference between FUT and FUE to better understand DHI. In the FUT method, a strip of tissue with hair follicles is extracted from the back of the scalp and implanted in the donor area. Incision is not used in the FUE hair transplant method, instead, a punch is used to extract follicle units and the extracted follicles are implanted in the recipient areas afterwards.

DHI hair transplant is a FUE hair transplant method and the main difference is the way how hair is implanted. In FUE hair transplant, the hair transplant surgeon makes incisions on the whole scalp and follicle units are placed on these incisions. In addition, the DHI hair transplant method does not require any incisions and a patented tool is used during each implantation on the scalp. As an alternative, the robotic hair transplant system can be applied. This system measures the depth and angle necessary for each hair follicle, that’s why it is also known as robotic follicular unit extraction.

The DHI Technique and FUE Hair Transplant

DHI uses a special device to fully control the angle, depth and direction of the follicle that is implanted. This results with a completely natural hairline and a natural look.

While the extracted grafts are directly implanted in the donor area in the DHI technique, in the FUE technique, the extracted grafts are placed in a special solution, a channel is opened in the recipient area and the extracted grafts are implanted in these channels. There are no additional canalization phases in DHI.

Because implantation is carried out with a special Implanter without opening the channels, there is no bleeding in DHI. There is no incrustation, pitting or postulation in DHI.
The maximum number of grafts can be approximately 2.000 grafts in a single DHI session, in FUE the number can be 5.000 grafts. For this reason, patients who need more than 2.000 grafts should receive more than one session in the DHI technique.

With the special Implanter in the DHI technique, it is easier and more successful to set an angle and direction.

You don’t need to get shaved in the DHI method, only the donor area is extracted. In the FUE method the whole scalp should be shaved before the operation.

A patient who received the DHI treatment can go on with his or her regular routine and can recover faster than a patient who received FUE Hair Transplant treatment.

Advantages of DHI Hair Transplant

The DHI tool enables the hair tissue to be placed well, thus there is a low risk of scars.
The DHI hair transplant operation does not require any incision.
The DHI device controls the depth, angle and direction of the hair follicles implanted.
DHI hair transplant is a safe operation with a low risk of complication.

Disadvantages of DHI Hair Transplant

DHI is not ideal for those with severe hair loss.
Those who wants more intense hair
Those who wants more number of grafts
